Increasing Access to Services for Women
Investment strategy built on the experiences of women and service providers
I joined a team from Dalberg Design and Dalberg Advisors to design a funding strategy for an anonymous donor that invests in access to reproductive health services for women in Latin America. In Peru, Argentina, and Mexico, we used design research methods to understand the experiences of women who have previously sought or may seek services in the future as well as the providers who are working to ensure they will be able to.
During interviews and focus groups we employed card sorting and hypothetical scenarios to help participants open up about this sensitive topic. We conducted service trials at women’s clinics and shadowed nonprofit staff. We purchased medication at pharmacies and traditional remedies at local markets. We uncovered unexpected opportunities for service design and investment. Our final strategy recommendations reflected the interconnected needs of women and service providers.
